The Mythos of 'Victory'

'Plan For Victory'

P
resident Bush's vision of "victory" in Iraq will be where terrorists and Saddamists can no longer threaten Iraq's democracy. Exactly, what does democracy in Iraq really mean? That we will maintain as many bases in the country to "secure" democracy for as long as possible, with or without that government's approval or without the tacit approval of the American public?

H
ow will we know the terrorists and insurgents have been killed or eliminated? Will they all turn in their arms and IEDs (improvised explosive devices) at the local schools like good little kiddies? We cannot secure our own borders against infiltration from potential enemies.

T
o think we can eliminate "terrorism" or the "insurgency" from Iraq is to believe in the tooth fairy. While our military are giving their lives for an untenable and unsustainable war, President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld are intent on continuing their destructive path to a mythic, hypocritical "victory," building enmity as they build even more military bases -- until the people finally force Congress to cut off their funding.
